SCH Meeting – April 20, 2017

The Society for Calligraphy & Handwriting’s (SCH) next meeting is Thursday, April 20th, at 7pm at First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue in room UC-105. Please view our meetings page for the address and directions.

Nan Robkin will be presenting an “endless” meander book. The book structure can be used as a notebook, sketchbook or an album. Please bring a pencil, scissors and a glue stick. Nan will be providing the paper. The materials fee is $3.00.

SCH Meeting – March 16, 2017

In honor of St. Patrick’s day our presenter, Kathy Barker, will begin with a brief study of the Book of Kells and historical Irish manuscripts. From this inspiration, we will try our hand at writing the Uncial alphabet.  The evening will conclude with the opportunity to create an Irish Blessing greeting card or gift quote.

Please bring your Parallel pens – both 3.8 mm (green lid) and 2.4 mm (yellow-orange), a C-Thru ruler and a mechanical pencil or well sharpened graphite drawing pencil. Supply fee will be $2.00.

SCH Spring 2017 Workshop: Chinese Brush Lettering with Wing K. Leong

On March 11, 2017 the Society for Calligraphy & Handwriting (SCH) will be sponsoring the workshop, “Chinese Brush Lettering with Wing K. Leong” in Renton, WA.

Wing K. Leong graduated from the New Asia College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art. In 1962, he immigrated to the United States with his family. He received calligraphy instruction from Lloyd Reynolds and collaborated with many artist on book projects, exhibitions, and artworks throughout the United States for more than 40 years.

Mr. Leong operated the Chinese Art Studio and Gallery in Portland, Oregon for 36 years before retiring. He showcased his talent in painting and calligraphy by authoring two books, Chinese Painting Step by Step and How to Paint Bamboo and taught in numerous colleges in the Pacific Northwest. His lively brushwork can be found on everything from pottery, textiles and even furniture. Some of his artwork is now available as limited edition Giclee prints. He is a living master in the art of calligraphy and brush painting.

In this workshop, students will learn the basics of Chinese Sumi painting on rice paper with watercolors, through demonstration and hands on practice. Mr. Leong will teach a variety of subjects: bamboo, botanicals, animals, as time allows.

SCH Meeting – February 16, 2017

The Society for Calligraphy & Handwriting’s (SCH) next meeting is Thursday, February 16th, at 7pm at First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue in room UC-105. Please view our meetings page for the address and directions.

Nancy Anderson will be presenting Modern Rustic. She will teach how to add a little twist and style to your lettering with this modern adaptation of 4-5th century Antique Rustic. Once you master the pen twist you can make it tall or short, wide or narrow for many unique designs. You will create a circular monogram note with a unique envelope.
 
Please bring any 3mm pen (i.e.  Brause 3mm, Mitchell #1, or C-2), ink preference, scissors and tracing paper. Supply fee will be $2.00.
