SCH Meeting – March 15, 2018

The Society for Calligraphy & Handwriting’s (SCH) next meeting is Thursday, March 15th, starting at our new time, 6:30 pm, at Jubilee REACH,14200 SE 13th Place, Bellevue, WA 98007, in Room 203. Please view our meetings page for a map and directions.

Linda O’Neill will lead us in exploring a number of monoline variations and then participants will create a design with a short quote of their own choosing. This quote will be transferred to a 4″x4″ watercolor paper square and completed with a glaze pen and watercolor. The finished piece will be framed.

Please bring a pencil, small ruler, short quote, 2 small pointed brushes, water container, blue artists tape/painters tape, and small cutting mat to work on (larger than 4″x4″). There is a $5.00* supply fee which includes handouts, glaze pen and frame. Additional supply items may be added to the list to bring. (*updated March 12th)

SCH Meeting – February 15, 2018

The Society for Calligraphy & Handwriting’s (SCH) next meeting is Thursday, February 15th, starting at our new time, 6:30 pm, at Jubilee REACH,14200 SE 13th Place, Bellevue, WA 98007, in Room 203. Please view our meetings page for a map and directions.

Nan Robkin will be presenting Zentangles, elaborate doodles created for relaxation and fun. The designs, known as tangles, are varied and range from easy to complicated. To do this hands-on program, please bring a pencil, eraser and a few Micron pens of different point sizes. A brush pen for filling in large areas is also handy.

Tiles for tangling will be provided. There will be a $5.00 supply fee to cover cost of the tiles and handouts.

SCH Meeting – January 18, 2018

TerriKruger-NarnonianTerri Kruger will be teaching Narnonian Hand, a fun and versatile variation of Pointed Uncial, great for beginning and intermediate calligraphers. We will cover basic letterforms, border, color and shading techniques and learn how to write on a variety of surfaces, such as glass, fabric and leather.

Please bring fun pens, such as metallic, gel and glitter (fine to medium point), pencil, a Pigma Micron pen, masking tape, 6 or 7 colored pencils, ruler, pencil, and lined notebook (such as college-ruled spiral pad). All other papers and supplies will be provided.  There is a $5 supply fee.

SCH Meeting – November 16, 2017

Katherine Malmsten will be presenting flat brush lettering techniques. She will demonstrate different ways flat brushes can be used in lettering, how to change angles, pressure and manipulation for different effects. Then we will have an opportunity to try it ourselves.

Please bring 1/4″ – 1/2″ flat brush, natural or synthetic, that comes to an edge when wet; writing fluid of your choice (gouache, watercolor or ink), water container, palette and paper that doesn’t bleed.
