SCH Meeting – October 18, 2018

The Society for Calligraphy & Handwriting’s (SCH) next meeting is Thursday, October 18th, starting at 7:00 pm at our new location, Chinook Middle School, 2001 98th Ave NE
Bellevue, WA 98004, in Room 1404. Please view our meetings page for a map and directions.

Nan Robkin will be presenting Jacob’s Ladder book structure, developed by Elsi Vassdal Ellis. This structure is perfect for calligraphers to embellish! Nan will demo a Halloween theme, but you can adapt the book to your own needs. 

Please bring a pencil, eraser, metal ruler, craft knife, cutting surface, awl and (optional) ephemera for embellishing your book. There will be stamps, ink pads and some die cuts to share. The supply fee is $5.00.

SCH Meeting – October 19, 2017

The Society for Calligraphy & Handwriting’s (SCH) next meeting is Thursday, October 19th, starting at our new time, 6:30 pm, at Jubilee REACH,14200 SE 13th Place, Bellevue, WA 98007, in Room 203. Please view our meetings page for a map and directions.

Anne Bingham will lead us in making two variations of a Hedi Kyle Panel book. Please bring the following items:

  • a small cutting mat
  • X-acto or similar craft knife
  • double-sided tape or glue stick
  • scissors
  • awl
  • embossing tool
  • a bone folder

The supply fee is $2.00, payable to Anne.

SCH Fall 2017 Workshop: Moving Steps Book with Elsi Vassdal Ellis

On November 4, 2017 the Society for Calligraphy & Handwriting (SCH) will be sponsoring the workshop, “Moving Steps Book” with Elsi Vassdal Ellis in Renton, WA.

In this workshop we will make a Moving Steps book. This book structure comes from a direct mail solution for an HP promotion. We will examine through model-making the impact of paper weight, page width, and grain direction and explore various creative options.

Elsi Vassdal Ellis has been a practicing book artist for over 30 years. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is housed in many public and private collections. Since 1983 she has produced over 133 editions and 127 unique books employing a variety of reproduction techniques and materials.

SCH Meeting – April 20, 2017

The Society for Calligraphy & Handwriting’s (SCH) next meeting is Thursday, April 20th, at 7pm at First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue in room UC-105. Please view our meetings page for the address and directions.

Nan Robkin will be presenting an “endless” meander book. The book structure can be used as a notebook, sketchbook or an album. Please bring a pencil, scissors and a glue stick. Nan will be providing the paper. The materials fee is $3.00.
