On March 29th the Society for Calligraphy & Handwriting (SCH) will be sponsoring the workshop, “The Foundational Hand, A One-Day Review of a Classic Style of Calligraphy with Jocelyn Curry” in Renton, WA.
The Foundational Hand is an upright style based on the circle and originally derived from the earlier Carolingian style of lettering. This “learning” hand was developed by Edward Johnston in the early 20th century in England.
In this class, we will review the lower case letters, practice them with Uncials as caps, and try our hand at some variations. Suitable for those with some broad-edged pen experience.
For more information and the registration form, please view the workshops page on our website.
Please join us for this fun and educational workshop. We look forward to seeing you there!
The Society for Calligraphy & Handwriting’s (SCH) next meeting is this Thursday, January 16th, at 7pm. It will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue in room S223. Please view our meetings page for the address and directions.
This month’s meeting activity is Fun with Uncials with Kathy Barker and Lisa Tsang. Following a basic review of these lovely rounded letter forms, we will also explore using uncials to create a circular design.
Please bring the following (if you have them): a large broad edge calligraphy marker (3.5 mm, 5.0mm), flat brushes (1/4″, 1/2″), and smooth surface layout/tracing paper (Canson Pro layout marker paper). Exemplars, writing fluid, paints and extra supplies will be provided. The supply fee is $3.00.
An optional raffle will be provided by Lisa for $2.00 a ticket. We look forward to seeing you there!
