A History of Color-Ideas to Freshen Your Palette with Shelly Baur

We’ll look at palettes from the prehistoric days through modern colors like YinMn blue. On our way, we’ll look at renowned artists and their colors such as Titian and Monet. We’ll go through some individual colors like red cochineal and mummy brown. I’ll share tips on how to make stretch goals for your color growth, so you’re not stuck in the same old color ruts. And there will be a dash of color theory too.

Foundational Letters and Edward Johnston’s Legacy with Katy Callahan-Huston

Edward Johnston and the Foundational Hand: Before, During and After.
In this lecture with handouts, we’ll look at Johnston’s development of one of the basic broad-edge calligraphy styles. Broaden your historical understanding and be inspired by the art of Johnston’s students and “descendents”. Katy Callaghan Huston has a BA in art history with an emphasis on medieval manuscripts. She has been a practicing calligrapher for over 60 years, and has taught and coached students in this and other calligraphy styles. Join us to learn about this classic script.
