On March 7th, 2020 the Society for Calligraphy & Handwriting (SCH) will be hosting the workshop, “Beyond B: “STOP” Modern Modified Monoline” with Elizabeth Walsh in Bellevue, WA.
In this fast-paced, hands-on workshop, we will explore the use of the Speedball B-nib from simple, basic lettering to a modified, modernistic monoline lettering style, using one of the many beautiful fonts by Italian type designer, Aldo Novarese. We will letter with one of Elizabeth’s favorite tools, the largest Speedball B-0 nib, as well as with a variety of round “bullet” tip markers, while writing onto a variety of smooth and textured papers and finally finishing by binding our sample pages together into a “take away” matchbook-style booklet.
Elizabeth Walsh, calligrapher/book artist/graphic designer lives in Olympia, where she and her husband David have raised their four daughters. She began her studies of calligraphy in the late 70s, founded Olympia’s local calligraphy guild, Nib ‘n’ Inks in 1980, and continues to attend lettering workshops, conferences & art retreats, always pursuing further art enrichment. She worked as a Graphic Artist for the Washington State Senate until retiring in 2001. Elizabeth still enjoys teaching calligraphy, bookbinding/paper arts workshops, as well as traveling, photography, nature hikes, and spending time with her family and her seven grandkids!
